Hammer has been exceptionally playful this week. I think we’ve played more this week, than in the last six months combined.

I kind of want a cat when I move out but have never had one before. I want a dog but will probably be in an apartment and would want a yard if I had a dog. I think cats are cool too but I’ve never lived with one so I don’t know what it would be like.

they are pretty great once house trained.
my cats, its a bowl of food, a thing of wet of wet food in the monring, in the evening, another bowl of food and refill her water bowl. other then that, she doesnt really need much. occasional attention. I’ll play with her for like 10 minutes before going to bed.
once a week brushing helps as well.

I miss the days when Scooby would jump over two feet to catch a string. Sigh.

Live cat blog. If he’s not in the backyard viciously murdering rodents for sport, he’s sleeping on my desk.

Here’s what to do when getting a cat for the first time:
Keep it in one room with food, water, litterbox, and something to scratch. They take time to get used to their surroundings and feel more secure in an enclosed space.
Spend time in the room even if you’re not directly interacting with the cat. Depending on the cat some of them may be all about interacting with you right away, others may be more leery. They need time to get used to you. Just being in the same space as them helps them get used to you. If you feel like trying to interact with them, go down to their level, let them sniff your hand and decide if they want to let you pet them.
After a few days you can let them out of the one room to explore the rest of your house/apartment. Same deal with interacting with them. Let them decide how much or little they want to interact with you.
Over time, they’ll realize you’re cool, and you’re the person who gives them food, and they’ll like you.

Cats are so much easier than dogs! I like dogs, but they’re such a PITA to own, I just stick to playing with other people’s dogs.

Here’s a photo dump. And here is a video of him teaching that mat a lesson.
This first picture is my all time favorite, but mainly because I don’t have any of him as a baby.

DAW!!! He’s so orange and fuzzy!! And a shop kittay!
Hammer is a strictly indoor cat, and our garage is detached, so I don’t get to have shop kitty.

Rubbing the fuzzy tummy is totally worth the occasional nip from those sharp kitty teeth :)

Yeah, he likes “helping.” He LOVES to “help” my mom make the beds. Most of the time he ends being part of the bed when she’s done.
And he knows he’s not supposed to be on my Mercedes, but as you can see from his face, he does what he wants. It’s a good thing he’s adorable.

That doesn’t sound too bad actually. Maybe I will get one eventually.

Okay cool, thanks for the advice. I really appreciate that. I have heard similar things about slowly letting them get to know both their environment and you.

That’s good to know. I like not having to walk them too. I would play with them still but walking can be a pain in winter here in Michigan.

I live in Chicagoland, I always laugh internally when I see people walking their dogs in the winter. I just rub Hammer’s belly and stay warm.
